One emergency call. Zero time for breakfast. And an older brother who insisted on annoying her before dropping her to work. Just another normal morning in Dr.Saanvi Oberoi's life.
The morning had barely begun, and yet, chaos was already brewing in the Oberoi household.
Saanvi Oberoi stood in front of the mirror and tightened the belt of her white coat as she glanced at her phone for the third time 8:30 AM. The message from her H.O.D Dr. Prakash flashing the screen:
"Urgent Case. Be here ASAP!"
With a sigh, She tucked her phone into her pocket and grabbed her bag. So much for a peaceful morning.
As she made her way downstairs, the comforting aroma of chai and paratha drifted through air. Her mother, Sakshi Oberoi, stood by the stove, flipping a golden paratha with expert ease.
"Bas aa rahi hoon, beta," Sakshi said without looking up. "Phele kuch kha toh le."
(I'm Coming, kiddo. Eat something first.)
Saanvi shook her head. "Maa, ek critical patient hai, late ho gayi toh Dr. Prakash mujhe OT ke andar hi lock kr denge."
(Maa, it's a critical patient. If I'll be late Dr. Prakash will lock me inside the OT.)
Sakshi rolled her eyes,"Haan, Haan tumhare bina toh hospital hi nhi chalega, hain na?" She placed a paratha on a plate.
(Yes, Yes, The hospital can't go on without you?)
Sakshi huffed and turned around, hands on her hips. "Aur khali pet kaam Kaun krta hai? Ek bite toh le le."
(Also, who works with empty stomach.)
Before Saanvi could protest further, a warm piece of paratha was shoved into her mouth. "Maa!" She mumbled, trying to chew while glaring Sakshi, who simply smiled in victory. Typical Indian Mom.
Just as she swallowed, an unwelcomed presence entered the kitched- Her beloved, irritating elder brother, Siddharth.
Siddharth plopped into the chair, stretching lazily, "Oh wow, the great Dr. Oberoi is gracing us with her presence this morning?"
Saanvi glared him, to which he smirked and said, "Tu hospital jaa rahi hai ya kisi award function mein? Itna ready hone ka kya logic hai?"
(Are you going to hospital or any award function? What's the logic behind being so ready.)
She rolled her eyes,"Tere existence ka kya logic hai?"
(What's the logic of your existence?)
Siddharth clutched his chest dramatically, "Ouch, Tere patient ke saath jo bhi hone wala hai, usse zyada toh mujhe hurt ho gaya"
(Ouch, I'm hurt more than whatever is going to happen to your patient.)
Saanvi rolled her eyes as he continued, "Waise, Saanu, tujhe dekh ke Tere hospital ke patient theek hone ke bajaye or bimaar nhi hote"
(By the way Saanu, your patients don't get sicker after seeing you?)
Saanvi grabbed a spoon from the counter and launched it at Siddharth's head. He dodged it just in time as he laughed,"Still terrible at aiming, I see."
"Tu zyada mat bol!" Saanvi snapped, pointing a threatening finger at him.
(Don't talk too much!)
Before the war could escalate, a deep interruption would be interrupted.
"Bas Karo tum dono!"
(Enough, you too!)
Their father, Samarth Oberoi, stood by the dining table shaking his head with a fond smile. "Roz Subah yeh jungle kyu shuru ho jata hai?"
(Every morning your, why does your jungle start?)
Saanvi crossed her arms,"Papa aapne dekha na? Yeh mujhe kabhi shanti se rehne deta!"
(Papa you saw? He doesn't let me live in peace.)
Samarth chuckled,"Arre beta, bhai-behen ki ladai toh zindagi ka asli masaala hai."
(Kiddo, brother-sister's fight is real masala of our life.)
Siddharth chuckled and high-fived with Samarth,"Dekh mein masaala hoon!"
(See, I'm masaala.)
Saanvi rolled her eyes,"Haan zeher wala masaala."
(Yes, a Poison one.)
Samarth chuckled as he took a sip of his chai,"Saanu ek din Siddharth ko miss karegi Jab Shaadi ho jayegi."
(Saanu, one day you'll miss Siddharth, when you'll get married.)
Saanvi scoffed,"Papa! Pehle patients baccha loon phir Shaadi ki tension!"
(Papa, first let me save patients, then marriage.)
"Ruk zara, yeh le ja!" Sakshi handed her a tiffin.
(Wait a minute, take this!)
Saanvi took the tiffin, pressing a quick kiss on her mother's cheek,"Best Mumma ever!"
Samarth cleared his throat dramatically,"Bas Mumma ko hi credit? Baap ko kuch nhi?"
(Only Mumma gets the credit? Nothing to Papa?)
Sakshi smirked,"Haan toh? Main hoon best."
(So? I'm the best.)
Samarth placed a hand on his chest dramatically,"Ofc! No doubt my choice."
Sakshi rolled her eyes,"Ohh, shut it!"
Siddharth and Saanvi burst into laughter as Siddharth said,"Papa, you lost this one!"
Siddharth chuckled,"Agar aap log ka Roz ka drama ho gaya ho toh chale Dr. Oberoi? Late ho raha hai."
(If guys are done with your daily drama, then shall we go Dr. Oberoi? It's getting late.)
Saanvi rolled her eyes but slung her bag over her shoulder and followed her brother. This madness of her small yet chaotic family was the best part of her morning that she would never admit.
π€
With that, Saanvi slipped into the passenger seat of her brother's sleek black car. Adjusting her white coat. Siddharth, ever the businessman, was already on a Bluetooth call, discussing numbers and contracts like it was his second language.
"Seatbelt," Siddharth said without looking at her already maneuvering the car out of the driveway.
She clicked the Seatbelt into place with an exaggerated eye roll,"Yes, Sir."
Siddharth smirked as she continued,"Yet, what a privilege! The great CEO Siddharth Oberoi personally driving me to the hospital. Should I feel honored?"
Siddharth, still listening to the person on the other end, casually placed the phone on the dashboard speaker.
"I could've sent a driver, but then who would remind you to act like normal human being and not a caffeine-dependent robot?" Siddharth said, chuckling.
Saanvi gasped,"Excuse me?! I save lives for a living. Unlike you, who just moved money around and calls it 'running a business'."
Siddharth smirked,"And yet, here you are, relying on my 'money-moving' skills to fund your late-night ice cream craving and unlimited Wi-fi."
Saanvi narrowed her eyes,"That's called siblings tax. You owe me for existing."
Siddharth chuckled,"If anything, I should be getting a refund. You're a liability."
Saanvi glared at him,"Oh please! If we weren't related, you'd be lucky to even talk to me. I'm a powerful and independent doctor."
Siddharth smirked,"Powerful? Says the girl who calls me to kill cockroaches for her."
Saanvi crossed her arms,"That's different! Those things have wings. Even logic has limits."
Siddharth shook his head, amused,"Unbelievable. The fearless Dr. Saanvi Oberoi, terrified of a tiny insect."
She looked out of the window and huffed,"I can handle blood, bones, and surgeries, but I refuse to negotiate with flying terrorists!"
Siddharth laughed,"Noted. You can cut open a human body but not deal with a tiny bug."
Saanvi flipped her hair,"Exactly, priorities. If I ever write a book on stress, I'm dedicating the first chapter to you!"
Siddharth chuckled,"You love me! Admit it."
Saanvi rolled her eyes,"I tolerate you! There is a difference!"
Siddharth took a turn and pulled in front of the hospital, turning to her with a smug look,"Sure, Sure. Now get out before your 'critical patient' actually dies waiting for you."
Saanvi rolled her eyes and grabbed her bag, getting down,"By the way, if you ever end up in my ER, I might delay your pain meds - just to teach you a lesson."
Siddharth raised a brow,"That's called, malpractice Dr.Oberoi."
Saanvi winked,"That's called Karma, Mr. CEO."
With that, she shut the car door and strode inside the hospital, leaving behind a brother, who, despite his sharp business mind, knew better than to pick a real fight with her.
